Captrain Denmark holds exclusive talks about the future operation of the Hirtshals rail freight terminal

New intermodal service to and from Germany from 2017

Helsingør/Berlin, 09/22/2016. The rail logistics provider, Captrain Denmark, a Captrain Deutschland GmbH company, has held exclusive talks with the city of Hjörring about the operation of a rail freight terminal in the port of Hirtshals. Hirtshals, in North-West Jutland, enjoys a central location in Scandinavia. The new terminal is designed to be an intermodal hub with a 24,000 square metre and 675 metres of tracks.

Captrain Denmark's first test train successfully arrived in Hirtshals on 15 September, which coincided with the launch of the marketing of a new intermodal service that Captrain Denmark intends to operate from 2017, with 3-5 round trips a week between Hirtshals and Herne in Germany's Ruhr region. A new locomotive is already in place and the timetables and staff have been organised.

The economic potential for the operation of the new cargo terminal and additional service to and from Germany is huge: the region's ferries handle over 300,000 trucks a year. By awarding the operator license, the city of Hjörring aims to optimise the region's freight services and offer new solutions by combining road, sea and rail transport.

Stig Kyster-Hansen, Managing Director of Captrain Denmark is confident: "We're pleased with the promising talks with the city of Hjörring. As the operator of the new terminal and additional intermodal service, we're confident of being able to transfer a lot of traffic from road to rail and are hoping for a positive reaction from the market."
